Anybody that knows me, knows I am a baseball fan. I particularly enjoyed watching my two sons play throughout their careers. I also was honored to coach a little high school baseball on occasion. Tonight was the mid summer break for pro baseball which means it is time for the "All Star Game". American League against the National league. I have always been a National League fan. I just believe all the players on the field should hit for themselves. That's just me. I do like the "All Star" games because you have a chance to see most of todays stars playing at once. This year the American League prevailed, again.
I wanted to make a dinner that would work well on TV trays just in case it ran over to game time. Leading off tonight's lineup is Coleslaw. My new rookie of the year prospect. The recipe is from 12 Bones Smokehouse A Mountain BBQ Cookbook. We have made it before and all enjoy it. My granddaughter Lily says it hit a home run tonight. Batting second was a new upstart. Spicy Purple Potato Salad. The recipe came from the July/August issue of the Food Network magazine. It is made spicy by the addition of minced jalapeno peppers and cumin. If the coleslaw was a homerun this potato salad was at least a double or triple. I served it cold but I believe this would do very well as a hot dish.
Batting in the three hole was an old tried an true veteran. Pulled pork. I have made this recipe for many years (so long I can't remember where the recipe came from). It does well on buns, tortillas or by itself. The only way I have tweaked it is to add pepperoncini peppers to the slow cooker. This recipe always delivers no matter what else is in the lineup. Tonight's team was a winner. My granddaughter Lily gave it a 10 out of 10. And my wife Donna said it was a 9 out of 10. I guess we will go with this line up again!
